Inclusive hiring makes good business sense!

HIRING INDIVIDUALS with intellectual disabilities reduces turnover, improves attendance and either maintains or improves overall organizational performance.
In Yellowknife, we have an untapped resource in unemployed and underemployed individuals with intellectual disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Clara Tutcho, a client of YKACL Employment Services, has worked at the Yellowknife McDonald’s location for more than 10 years. Manager Alex Bornilla says Clara makes an important contribution to his restaurant.
“Clara is awesome. She does a great job in maintaining the cleaniliness in the lobby and greeting customers with a smile. She is part of the team,” he said. “For us, having Clara work with us is a privilege. We give her the independence she needs and she makes money for herself and does not rely on everybody else. She is doing things for herself.”
Alex has issued a challenge to other Yellowknife businesses to promote workplace diversity.
“Don’t steal Clara from us, because she’s amazing, but I recommend you consider doing the same thing we have done here,” he said.
