THE 27th ANNUAL GUMBOOT RALLY brought fun, laughter and more than $16,500 to the Yellowknife Association for Community Living on Saturday morning, May 4.
Thirteen teams made up of 65 participants raised the funds in recent months, before facing off in costume to compete in Saturday’s Gumboot-themed games of skill in the YK1 parking lot.
“What a fabulous morning,” said Tony Florio, YKACL board member. “There was so much enthusiasm and great fun. It is wonderful to see so many children participating!”
Staff from école JH Sissons School (Queen Amadila and the Sissons Sisters), école St. Joseph School (Yo Da Bomb!) and St. Patrick High School (May the Luck of the Irish be With You!) fielded teams, as did broadcasters from 100.1 Moose FM (Scruffy-looking Moose Herders) and CBC North (CBC-3P0s). Other teams included staff from the Mackenzie Valley Review Board (Dagobah Swampers), Yellowknife RCMP, and GNWT employees (Beyond a Reasonable Gumboot, Who’s Your Daddy). Several teams were composed of family members and friends (The Gumboot Jedis, Tai Chi Tigers, The Ewoks, The Super Stars).
FUNDRAISING HONOURS:
o Denise Anderson earned the award for top fundraiser
o Christine MacDonald earned second place for raising the second-highest total

Three dozen volunteers helped stage the two-hour event. Prizes were donated by Canadian North and Quality Furniture.
