Holidays provide a fun opportunity to gather with friends and socialize! But if one of your friends or family members is pregnant, support them by making healthy choices together to protect her pregnancy! That’s what friends and family are for!

Association staff will distribute pregnancy test kits, condoms and alcohol-free mocktail recipes to night clubs, bars and liquor stores as part of the Association’s latest annual Healthy Pregnancy Campaign.

An image of muskoxen represents YKACL’s message to moms-to-be and their loved ones and peers. Muskoxen protect their babies from danger by forming a circle: if someone in your own social circle is expecting, protect her pregnancy by making healthy choices together.

Alcohol, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, poor diet, opioids, marijuana and any other substance that may enter a mom-to-be’s system can affect her baby-to-be.

FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) is alarmingly common, with an estimated four per cent of Canadians having the disorder, far more than previously thought. Despite recent prevention efforts, approximately 11 per cent of Canadians mothers report consuming alcohol during pregnancy, with more than three per cent reporting alcohol binges during pregnancy.

Approximately one half of all pregnancies are unintended. The highest rates of unintended pregnancy occur in women aged 15 to 19 years of age, which is also a population at increased risk for binge drinking.
